In researching and understanding the position I see the responsibility and effort that each member has put into the position. My accountability to Colorado and to those who have given me such a great place to grow and mature encourage my passion to take my place in helping keep the standards I have enjoyed and to foster continued innovation to help make things better.
I have taken the first steps I believe by becoming LEED accredited and learning as much as I can daily about sustainable development. I would like to enhance my knowledge and offer new insights as the landscape of the green building community continue to evolve.
My interest was sparked when I constructed my first building in 1996. I was working with builders without borders and they were describing solar panels and wind energy. I was hooked and I read everything I could about this new idea of green energy. Through study and travel to other countries I saw the need and desire by so many to enhance the landscape of development with green building practices. I have always loved Colorado and know the happiness it has brought me and I have seen the pride that others take in their home countries and it excites me to continue to do the same. I have done everything I can to enhance myself to become a useful tool to ensure my home, state, and country remains beautiful and is able to sustain the growth that is inevitable.
My experience as a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters, Homelessness Colorado, Habitat for Humanity, Builders Without Borders, and my LEED accreditation have given me a well-rounded sense of my duty to the community as leader and as member. I have not held a board position yet and am looking to enhance my other experiences by taking on this leadership role. I have always stepped up to both lead and follow. While this would be my first board position I believe true leadership is becoming a servant to those in your community and I would like to serve in a new, greater capacity with a broad strong based knowledge on the USGBC Colorado board.
In every organization I have been a part of we have had to fundraise. Most recently I had to raise funds for Team in Training an organization that raises money for a cure for cancer. I helped raise funds for my team to send 10 people to Hawaii to compete in a triathlon with 60% of the money going to the cancer research. This experience was my first in leading the creation of different events to raise funds. While I have been a part of many different fund raising events I
had not had to create the fundraising effort and direct everything from soup to nuts. The experience with Team in Training has introduced me to new fundraising ideas and a large group of people who are very talented in terms of fundraising and I am excited to begin a new fundraising campaign.
I have been and am affiliated with many different associations – Builders without Borders, Habitat for Humanity, Colorado Black Chamber of Commerce, DEMCAR, Denver Board of Realtors, ULI, and NIAOP. The clients I am involved with are Pei Wei, Whichwich, Pinkberry, Fresh and Easy- all of which have been interested in green build and design for their new stores.
Currently I am currently pursuing my Doctorate in Urban Planning Economics at the University of Colorado Denver. I also develop market plans for my clients and am heavily involved in realestate leasing and acquisitions around the country.
