Sheri Sanzone, Principal, Bluegreen

Why are you interested in serving on USGBC Colorado’s Board of
Directors?

I have always admired the chapter for its accomplishments in promoting the
importance of green building within the professions and to the general public
in Colorado. I have seen the chapter prosper and expand its sphere of
influence, but understand that currently there are significant challenges to the
organization’s health. I want to bring my skills in organizational leadership,
fundraising, strategic planning and partnership building to the Board to help
the chapter weather these challenges. And I want to share my passion for
green building with other like-minded Board members.

Describe your interest in and passion for green building and
sustainability.

My 22-year career as a landscape architect, urban designer and planner is
shaped by a commitment and drive to constantly improve our surroundings
and the process we employ to realize those improvements. Art, green
building and sustainability are the basis for this mission and the foundation
for my studio, Bluegreen.

What experiences and/or expertise contribute to your qualifications
as a candidate for our Board of Directors?

Currently, the founding principal of landscape architecture, urban design and
planning studio; previously the Principal in Charge of the Aspen office of a
multi-office design practice.

Currently, vice-president and executive director of two non-profit boards in
Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley; previously chair of two governmental
and non-profit boards; former Western Area director for the Colorado
Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.

Currently, chair of the Mountain Branch Interest Group for USGBC Colorado.

What experience do you have with nonprofit fundraising?
Serving on any non-profit board requires an aptitude for fundraising. In my
experience, successful fundraising has depended on a clear value
proposition, personal asks, and a passion for the cause. Currently,
fundraising is the number one concern for non-profit organizations in the
Roaring Fork Valley and the competition is fierce for the limited pool of
potential funders. We have also enjoyed success in our fundraising through
matching campaigns. Drawing on the past presidents of a leadership nonprofit,
a Council was created and each member matched the donation of the
current president to join. They were happy to respond to this ask. They are
passionate about the cause and also recognize the networking value of being
a part of an elite group of community leaders.

Describe what expertise, experience and resources you would
bring to USGBC Colorado.

Considerable experience in professional and non-profit organizations.

Extensive professional/technical expertise in green building and planning
through training and practice as a landscape architect, urban designer
and land use planner.

Being passionate about green building allows me to create the time to
commit to this position. As a principal at Bluegreen, I can commit our
studio’s resources towards special efforts. A certain part of our workload
is dedicated to volunteerism and giving back to the community.
