2012 Board Elections Home

Stan Wagner, Business Manager, Group14 Engineering

Why are you interested in serving on USGBC Colorado’s Board of
Directors?

I have been involved with USGBC Colorado for three years. Throughout that time, I have been active on the Green Schools Committee. I have led the Green Schools Summit for three years. Over the past three years, the Green Schools Summit has thrived – even through the severe economic downturn. A part of the Green Schools Summit success is due to a strong, focused subcommittee that has
delivered compelling programming and maintained the financial health of the Summit. With my experience on the Green Schools Committee, I have valuable organizational experience and knowledge of successful community engagement on behalf of USGBC Colorado. I would like to take this experience and benefit USGBC Colorado on a larger scale.

Describe your interest in and passion for green building and sustainability.
Sustainism is the new modernism. ~ Michiel Schwarz and Joost Elffers
My professional career has revolved around, and supported, sustainably
focused organizations.

My experience includes a progressive public relations firm in Silicon
Valley which focused on Clean Tech, a national MEP engineering firm
with a strong portfolio of sustainable projects, and my current employer,
Group14 Engineering, which solely focuses on sustainable development
of buildings and communities. I am active in the USGBC community. I am
currently a LEED Green Associate and am pursuing LEED AP ND
(expected by December 2011).

Personally, I have completed the Denver Water Master Composter
program. I have also lead landscaping projects which have reduced water
consumption by 50% for each project.

What experiences and/or expertise contribute to your qualifications as a
candidate for our Board of Directors?

My educational background includes urban planning at the University of
Texas. My professional experience includes working with architect,
engineers and public relations firms. My past employment includes
working in Austin, San Francisco and Seattle. My broad geographic and
working experience provides a well-rounded, thoughtful, forward-looking
approach to organizational development.

What experience do you have with nonprofit fundraising?
I have substantial nonprofit fundraising experience. I have created and
implemented campaigns that have raised tens of thousands of dollars. My
experience includes:
- Successful donor mail campaigns for an elder support services
organization in Austin, Texas
- Sponsorship Chair for SMPS Colorado, increasing sponsorships
through unique sponsor benefit agreements (increasing sponsorship
dollars by 25% despite the recession)
- Chair of the Green Schools Summit, with a special focus on
sponsorship. The 2011 Green Schools Summit sponsorship will
surpass 2010 levels by 75%.

Describe the personal and professional networks that can be leveraged
on behalf of USGBC Colorado?

My responsibilities with Group14 are to focus on marketing and business
development. With that in mind, I am continually developing professional
relationships, partnerships and events, as well as nurturing existing
relationships.

My role at SMPS Colorado will provide a bridge to a key professional
organization – ensuring USGBC Colorado maximizes its visibility
opportunities.

I am active on LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter, as well as other social
media outlets.

Describe what expertise, experience and resources you would bring to USGBC Colorado.
My past experience includes over 15 years of operations, IT and marketing leadership, including the Director of Operations for a 50 person public relations agency. My managerial and executive level responsibilities and oversight include operations, finance, human resources, policy development and strategic planning.

My marketing, business development and operations experience with
architecture and engineering firms gives me a broad view of the building
profession. My experience is also geographically diverse. My education is
in urban planning.

I can bring an “army” of supporters and influencers. My role within Group14, as well as past companies, had established a broad, diverse group of colleagues who can be turned onto USGBC Colorado..
