Who We Are
The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is the nation's leading nonprofit coalition for advancing buildings that
are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. The Colorado Chapter promotes green
building in Colorado through educational programs and workshops, community outreach, collaboration with other
organizations and the promotion of environmentally responsible practices within the Colorado building community.
Our members include building owners and
users, real estate developers, building managers,
architects, designers, engineers, general
contractors, subcontractors, product and building
system manufacturers, government agencies,
educational institutions, environmental groups
and nonprofits, students, and anybody else-we
are all affected by buildings!
What We Do
The Colorado Chapter supports the USGBC's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Green Building
Rating System in order to transform the built environment. The Chapter is made up of six volunteer committees which
are responsible for monthly educational programs and tours, initiating a new regional green building magazine
("Green"), collaborating on local green building resources such as "Using LEED-NC® in Colorado" and a "Cost
Effectiveness of LEED-NC® Certified Buildings in Colorado" report, gathering resources and information for a new and
improved website, and offering free LEED AP exam study sessions.
About Building Green in Colorado
The Colorado green building movement has hit the tipping point! Colorado boasts 28 LEED® certified projects-75%
more than 2005, 131 LEED® registered projects-220% more than 2005, 1,100 LEED APs-25% more than 2005, and 369
members-75% more than 2005.
In November, 2006 the USGBC and Colorado
Chapter hosted over 13,000 green building
leaders for the Greenbuild International Conference
and Expo. Greenbuild served as an educational
and networking forum and also left a legacy
of environmentally-responsible conference
practices.
Mission
Advance and promote sustainable planning, design, construction and operation of the built environment through
education, improving industry guidelines, policy advocacy, and information and resource sharing. |
