Testimonials
“Both the GPRO Green Building Fundamentals and Electrical Systems have been tremendously informative and interesting. By offering this type of training to our employees at LEI Companies, we are able to close the gap on the knowledge of green building in a way that all of our employees can understand. Now we know and have a platform to teach how and where our role in a green project is. It is an invaluable certification as a standalone course, and additionally provides a great basic for other LEED programs providing the most value for our training dollar.” Ema Rankin, LEI Companies |
GPRO: Green Professional Building Skills Training Program
The U.S. Green Building Council Colorado Chapter (USGBC Colorado) is pleased to announce the expansion of GPRO, a national green building certificate program for tradespeople and contractors. USGBC Colorado is the exclusive provider of this exciting new program in Colorado, allowing the organization to meet a significant need in the local green building community.
Urban Green Council, the New York Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, developed GPRO, Green Professional Building Skills Training, in collaboration with leading unions, contractors and educators. The final product is a comprehensive training program that caters to the building industry’s unique needs.
USGBC Colorado brought GPRO to 200 electricians in the first half of 2011 through a partnership with the Independent Electrical Contractors Rocky Mountain Chapter (IECRM). The organization is now bringing GPRO Construction Management & GPRO Operations & Maintenance Essentials to the state through a new partnership with the Construction Mastery Institute (CMI).
What Is GPRO?
GPRO is a series of courses and certificate exams that teach the people who build, renovate and maintain buildings the principles of sustainability combined with trade-specific green construction knowledge. GPRO Certificate Holders will be poised to work in accordance with new regulations and to meet the expectations of owners and tenants who want healthier, environmentally sustainable, and energy-efficient homes and offices.
GPRO is designed by the trades for the trades. The courses assume that participants already know their trade, whether they are a plumber, electrician, or building operator. GPRO courses provide trade-specific information on sustainable construction practices that workers have not experienced on conventionally-built projects. The program materials and exam span the “green gap” between standard trade skills and the new awareness and skills required to successfully implement a green building project.
Each trade-specific GPRO course is paired with a Fundamentals of Building Green course. Current GPRO offerings in Colorado include:
Construction Management
Operations & Maintenance Essentials
Electrical Systems
Coming in 2012: Plumbing & Mechanical - Air
GPRO courses are also available for 12 or more students at your company or organization. This option is ideal for employers or associations who want an in-house training option. Please contact Deb Kleinman at USGBC Colorado (303-292-6185) for more information.
