Creating The Natural Dream Home
Kari Foster, David Huffman, Megan Gilman

The topic for this LEED for Homes interactive panel discussion is Mountain Living magazine’s 2009 Natural Dream Home. Expected to earn LEED for Homes certification, every detail – from the building envelope to the furnishings – was scrutinized for its environmental impact. From start to finish, the project focused on collaboration and communication with an integrated team that included all subcontractors. As a result, the home is expected to use less than half the energy of a comparable luxury home.

With in-depth energy modeling and a complex real-time energy monitoring system, the project team is gaining valuable data about the design and performance of the home. Mountain Living’s monthly editorial coverage required complete transparency throughout the building process while also helping the project team create a valuable educational tool – a living classroom – that showcases custom sustainable design for the Colorado Mountain community.

This energetic and comprehensive seminar will allow you to hear directly from the Natural Dream Home’s builder, designer and energy expert to get a well rounded overview of the LEED for Homes process along with the challenges and triumphs of building a high performance luxury home. Topics include energy efficiency, sustainable building materials, site planning, fixed finishes, and furnishings. The presentation will conclude with audience questions for the panel.
