With the increased media focus and mainstream interest in green building, the general public, as well as, the design and construction industry is beginning to embrace and demand green building practices.  Clients are beginning to alter their priorities in order to achieve more sustainable goals.  In addition, the recent rise of energy prices has turned the nation’s focus on saving energy and, green technology improvements seem to emerge daily.  As a result, now more than ever, design professionals are able to push a broader and broader range of sustainable techniques and methodologies.  So, is Net Zero Energy building the next logical step in the sustainable building movement?   Is it the right answer?  Is it practical?  Is now the right time?

Architect, Paul Hutton, and mechanical engineer, Pete Jefferson will discuss reasons to make Net Zero Energy a goal, how to achieve Net Zero Energy, and explain the barriers to Net Zero Energy building.  Discussion will include new construction applications, as well as, how net zero energy relates to retrofit conditions. In addition, they will cover how existing funding mechanisms and legislative regulations impact the feasibility of achieving net zero energy significantly.
