The Benefits of Chapter MembershipBy Deb Kleinman, USGBC Colorado Chapter Executive Director
The first group I ever joined was my neighborhood Brownie Troop. I remember going to the department store with my mother and trying on my uniform which was a plain brown pinafore – I knew it would look so much better o nce I started winning all of those badges and awards and pinned them on the white sash which hung lightly across my young shoulders. After all the anticipation of belonging to this group of reckless, adventuresome eight year olds, it was a huge disappointment to show up to the first day and realize how much I hated it. I quit the next day. I don’t remember what happened to the uniform. Membership in the Colorado Chapter
We’re working hard to increase the excitement around membership in the Colorado Chapter. We’re identifying and developing new benefits for our members, creating new networking programs and events, and identifying new and meaningful volunteer opportunities at all levels of our ever-growing organization. Membership in USGBC Colorado and USGBC National We get lots of questions about membership in USGBC Colorado. Here are the basics, in a nutshell:
Membership empowers Coloradoans to take credible action to promote and advance sustainable building practices. It provides invaluable (and fun) networking opportunities with other professionals in our community, and a standing invitation to participate in events, workshops, discussions, green building tours, and more. Joining the Colorado Chapter is easier than ever. All you have to do is visit the membership section of our website and follow the instructions. USGBC Colorado Membership Directory Thanks to the efforts of staff, volunteers, and our friends at McGraw Hill, we will be able to offer our Chapter Members the opportunity to be included in the first ever USGBC Colorado Membership Directory. Each member will have a short profile, including your work and the services/products that you offer. This is a great opportunity to advertise your company to the green building community, and to publicly identify yourself as an individual committed to green and high performance buildings. The membership directory will be distributed for free to all current members at the Annual Fall Membership event in September. The directory will also be available for purchase to non members. Annual Membership Meeting & Gala Event Chapter volunteers are working on the final details of our first Annual Membership Meeting & Gala, scheduled for mid-September in Denver, CO. This event will bring together members of the green building community from across the state to celebrate our accomplishments. Ed Mazria, Executive Director of Architecture 2030 and issuer of the 2030 Challenge, will be our likely Keynote Speaker. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks. If you would like to volunteer at this event, please email Amelia Chiles, amelia@usgbccolorado.org
