Cameron Sinclair, Architects for Humanity, to Deliver Keynote at May ConferenceCameron Sinclair, Architects For Humanity: 2009 Major Speaker, Colorado Sustainability ‘09By Deb Kleinman, Executive Director, USGBC Colorado Chapter
It gives me great pleasure to announce the major speaker at our 2009 conference: Cameron Sinclair, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Architects for Humanity. Trained as an architect at the University of Westminster and at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London. Mr. Sinclair’s interest in social, cultural and humanitarian design dates back to his architectural studies, and his postgraduate thesis focused on providing shelter to New York’s homeless through sustainable, transitional housing. Mr. Sinclair has spoken widely on the subject, and has received numerous awards, including the ASID Design for Humanity Award and the Lewis Mumford Award for Peace. In 2004 Fortune Magazine named Mr. Sinclair as one of the Aspen Seven, and in 2006 he was one of three winners of the TED Prize, which honors visionaries from any field who have shown they can “positively impact life on this planet.” Architects For Humanity is a non-profit organization that seeks architectural solutions to humanitarian crises and brings design services to communities in need. AFH is currently working on projects ranging from health centers in Sub-Saharan Africa community centers in Southeast Asia, and low-income housing on the Gulf Coast of the U.S. In 2007, AFH launched the Open Architecture Network, the world’s first online community dedicated to improving living conditions through innovative and sustainable design.
