We will present on the synergistic benefits of collaboration among engineers, ecologists and landscape architects during the design, construction and post construction management of detention ponds in an urban context. The presentation will include discussions about how the collaboration process enhances the results from site specific design and can decrease impacts on the greater watershed. The speakers and moderator plan to share their professional experiences with the group and show examples of on the ground examples.
The presentation will open with a brief synopsis of conventional detention and water quality design methods employed by engineers and accepted universally in this region by municipalities. We will present on the ground results from this approach.
We will discuss the importance collaboration and its contributions when designing a detention pond to site specific conditions (e.g., hydrology, wildlife, vegetation and the interconnected relationship of each). And, we will go a step further by broadening the scope of our design by considering its connection and impact on the greater watershed.
