Two Worlds Collide: Green Building & Western Water (05/21/2010)
The class will be held at the CU Denver School of Architecture & Planning, 1250 14th Street, Denver, CO 80202, Room 440.
This course will provide an introduction to the broader topic of water resources in the western United States, the history of development, and current policy and management. With this foundation, the course will then explore the connections and hurdles, between the existing water resource systems and green building, specifically addressing the opportunities for sustainable urban water management.

Prerequisites or Prior Knowledge: Green building practices. Your local water and sewage provider: who they are, what they charge for water, what fee they charge for tap or connection; where they get their water, do they offer reuse water?
Course Developer: Paul W. Lander, PhD, ASLA, LEED AP. Paul has worked in the fields of water, energy and land conservation for over 28 years. For 16 years, he led the City of Boulder’s Water Conservation Office, directing the city’s award-winning program for a community of over 100,000 people. He teaches courses in Western Water, and Landscape Sustainability at CU-Boulder, is Chair of the ASLA Water Conservation Professional Network and the AWWA WaterWiser Committee, and is on the advisory board of the Lane Community College, OR Water Conservation Technician Program. Dr. Lander attended the Universities of Washington and Colorado, receiving graduate degrees in landscape architecture and geography, and is a LEED Accredited Professional.
