Job Title: Staff Engineer I or II

Job Description:

You want to build a better world -- why not make it part of your work life?  Architectural Energy Corporation (AEC) has an opening for a Staff Engineer I or II in its Boulder, CO office.  You must be widely experienced in hourly simulation software programs and in industry-accepted engineering methods for evaluating energy performance.  Our national and international clients are striving to build the most sustainable facilities possible – and you could be the person who can help us bring our client services to the next level.  Education and relocation benefits are available; and just outside your office door is some of the best skiing, hiking, running, and river-rafting country in North America!

If you are interested, you need the following qualifications:

  • An undergraduate four-year degree in engineering or architecture as a minimal educational requirement. A graduate degree in engineering or related field would be ideal.
  • Excellent communication skills -- oral, written, and presentation -- and facility with necessary supporting software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Competency in communicating with peers and clients to effectively execute projects.
  • Motivated to engage in ongoing training to keep skills current and fresh.
  • Able and willing to mentor junior staff and contribute to group collective knowledge.
  • Expertise in complex building mechanical systems and state-of-the-art energy efficiency technologies/ applications.
  • 3+ yrs energy modeling experience with DOE-2, TRNSYS, E-Plus or other detailed hourly simulation; also, experience with LBL Window and / or THERM.
  • Ability to determine and utilize appropriate model input characteristics from various stages of construction documentation.
  • Working knowledge of and experience with the architectural design process and all phases of design/build from pre-design to construction administration.
  • Working knowledge of the USGBC’s LEED certification systems (NC, EB, CI, etc.), and LEED AP status.

Our interest will be even greater if you have these qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience in a building related field, preferably experience in mechanical engineering, architecture, HVAC design, commissioning or building operations.
  • Registration as a professional engineer.
  • Ability to travel out of state.
  • Experience in designing / evaluating state-of-the-art sustainable design technologies for commercial new construction that might include: natural ventilation, mixed-mode ventilation, solar cooling, etc.
  • Experience with additional simulation software programs tailored to sustainable design analysis, such as: DesignBuilder, Virtual Environment, Ecotect, etc.

Salary Range:    $60,000-$80,000
